Activity 4- Stating the Issues in a Business Report

Acitivty 4a: Language activity – Cleft sentences

  1. Introduction to Cleft Sentences: The students are given a paragraph on quality which includes cleft sentences highlighted. They are asked to read and familiarise with cleft sentence structure. Task 2- Activity 4a-i
  2. Rules of Cleft Sentences: The students are asked to discuss in groups the characteristics of cleft sentences. Task 2- Activity 4a-ii

iii. Making Cleft Sentences: The students are provided with another excerpt where they will be asked to turn the given phrases into cleft sentences in writing. Task 2- Activity 4a-iii

WORKBOOK: The students rewrite the sentences by using IT- and WH-Cleft sentences taking into consideration the boldfaced words.  Task 2- Activity 4a-iii-Workbook

 

Activity 4b.

  1. Familiarizing with Body Paragraphs: The students are given one of the body paragraphs of the created business report and are asked to read and answer comprehension check questions.  Task 2- Activity 4b-i
  2. Determining Solutions in a Body Paragraph: The students are provided with a body paragraph from the original report document and are asked to read and discuss the solutions provided in the paragraph. Task 2- Activity 4b-ii

iii. Writing a Body Paragraph: The students are provided with a number of quality issues in phrases and they are asked to write a body paragraph using the issues provided in pairs. Task 2- Activity 4b-iii
